ZSVR · Simply more transparency in packaging
Since 2019, the Packaging Act has been in force in Germany. Since then, the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (ZSVR), based in Osnabrück, has been working to ensure greater fairness and a level playing field in packaging recycling. The agency’s goal is to reduce the environmental impact of packaging waste and to secure funding for recycling efforts. To promote transparency, the ZSVR has established a digital packaging register where companies that market their goods in various types of packaging are required to register. They must also report the annual quantities of packaging they place on the German market. The website receives over 1 million page views every year. At the end of 2024, together with the ZSVR, we revamped their website and fundamentally redesigned it to be more user-friendly.

Challenge
The website and its digital register are the core elements of the ZSVR. Here, visitors can find everything important about packaging-related obligations – what they mean for companies and how they can act in compliance. In light of three legislative amendments, the website’s content had grown significantly, making it increasingly complex for users to navigate and use effectively.
Goal
Companies can now easily fulfill their packaging obligations. Users are quickly and intuitively guided to the information they need, return to the ZSVR website with confidence, and perceive the ZSVR as a modern, digital public authority.
