Hamburger Kunsthalle - Femme Fatale
Courageous and stimulating: We have developed an accompanying magazine for the “Femme Fatale” exhibition at the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
From December 9, 2022, the exhibition “Femme Fatale” at the Hamburger Kunsthalle is dedicated to a critical examination of the image of the sensual-erotic woman, which is dominated by male and binary gaze orders, who plunges men into misfortune. The 200 exhibits range from paintings by Pre-Raphaelite artists to works of Impressionism, Expressionism and New Objectivity to positions of the early feminist avant-garde and current works with a queer and intersectional feminist perspective.
JUNO has developed the accompanying booklet, which stems from a cooperation between the Hamburger Kunsthalle and Missy Magazine. Due to its form and language, the magazine is a novelty for the museum which is also reflected in the design. It is not a classically prepared teaching medium, the magazine goes far beyond the presentation of historical and theoretical contexts. Readers are addressed directly and encouraged to vent, get angry and ask questions that accompany them in the here and now. The works on display are linked to everyday experiences and critical questions and point to current social developments and trends. The free magazine is as complex as the concept of the femme fatale – as stimulating as it is problematic.
