Munken is one of the very few – perhaps even the only brand – that has managed to become a well-known brand as a paper range in Europe. Whenever you mention the name »Munken« around people who are familiar with high-quality printed matter such as art catalogs, you look into joyful nodding faces. Now the Swedish brand with the monk is to become even more international. To this end, we are refreshing the brand image and promoting it with the »Colab« campaign.

Also through our work, Munken has become the paper of choice for many creative people. Many European agencies and designers automatically think of the paper with the monk when they think of experimental and high-quality design projects. To reinforce this image and make Munken more independent in Arctic Paper’s portfolio, we are giving the paper brand a new typeface and revising the logo to reflect the »original monk« from the early days.

As part of the rebranding and communication, we initiate a collaboration between Munken and type designers Lineto from Switzerland. Laurenz Brunner, Selina Bernet, in exchange with Jonas Williamson and Cornel Windlin from Lineto, develop from this the Munken Sans Grotesk font - a further development of the classic Swedish font Tratex. Once completed, Munken made it available to the design community free of charge. Since more than 10,000 creatives from around the world downloaded Munken Sans and work with it.
