Julia Jäkel has been shaping the media and cultural landscape both in Hamburg and beyond for many years. She is involved at the interfaces of economy, politics, and society. She is a member of the supervisory board of the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie concert hall, the Deutsche Presse-Agentur DPA, the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and deputy chairwoman of the board of trustees of the DFL Foundation.

She currently chairs the Future Council for the Reform of Public Broadcasting. Together with her husband Ulrich Wickert, she founded the Ulrich Wickert Foundation, which, under the umbrella of Plan International Germany, is committed to ensuring that children all over the world can exercise their rights.
