The New Charité
Charité university hospital is planning for the medicine of tomorrow. We are making their urban development vision tangible.
Today, the Charité is already one of the best university hospitals in the world. With 290 professors, some 8,000 students and over 18,000 employees, the Charité is an institution that combines research and medicine in exemplary fashion. However, the Charité is also pursuing a bold vision for the future: It aims to form the centrepiece of Berlin Health City (Gesundheitsstadt Berlin), where state-of-the-art medicine is researched, taught and practiced at the highest international level. We highlight the urban dimension of this vision through the example of the Virchow-Klinikum campus. After the award of the contract, the goal is to create optimum conditions for the medicine of tomorrow by 2050 on a site some 285,000 square meters in area.
